Cheer practices will be held at Meadowbrook Middle School. Competition Squads (Jr. Pee Wee-Varsity) will practice at indoor facilities in Poway possibly beginning in late September (number of indoor practices/outdoor practices TBD). Additional gym time may be arranged by the Head Coach of competitive squads at the expense of the team.
Head Cheer coaches determine exact practice times/days. Generally practices are usually between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm.
Flag practices 2 to 3 days per week for approx. 1.5 to 2 hours.
Jr. Pee Wee – Midget practice 4 to 5 days per week, and drop down 3 practices per week when school starts with a duration of 2 to 2.5 hours per practice.
Games are on held on Saturdays (younger teams are usually in the morning while older squads are later in the evening). Games start late August. Home Field is Poway High School. Other possible game locations (specifics to be announced as schedule is set): Carlsbad, Escondido, Fallbrook, La Costa Canyon, Murrieta, Oceanside, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, San Marcos, Scripps Ranch, Temecula Valley, Torrey Pines, Valley Center, Vista and Wildomar. All cheer squads are required to cheer at away games. This includes the games before competition.
The Palomar Cheer Competition is held in October. If a squad places 1st or 2nd they advance to compete at the Wescon Regional Cheer Championships. Flag and Mitey Mite squads perform but do not compete.
Regional Cheer Championships are in November. (First and second place teams at Regionals qualify for Nationals.)
National Cheer Championships are held during the Pop Warner Super Bowl at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida in the beginning of December. Teams that qualify for the Pop Warner Nationals Cheer Competition must purchase a hotel and park hopper package from Disney at a discounted rate, and involved a 3 to 5 night stay. Four to five days of school will be missed, and Pop Warner provides letters to the schools to explain the absence. Study hall is encouraged while in Florida. Squads are encouraged to fundraise to assist in travel costs.
Participation past the regional level is at the discretion of the league, head coach and participating families.
